Bethel-St. Mark Historic District Community Initiative

Monday, September 10, 2018 marks the official opening of the solicitation period for funding of the Bethel-St. Marks Historic District Community Initiative.  The Community Initiative was implemented by the Punta Gorda City Council following the City’s opt-out of the Federal Community Development Block Grant program in 2017.  The program is focused solely on the Bethel-St. Mark Historic District. 

The City has funded three projects under the first fiscal year of the Initiative.  These projects included the “Agripreneur Fresh Market and Garden” start-up and operational cost (3 year commitment); Cooper Street Recreation Center furniture; and Task 1 of an Infrastructure Analysis for the neighborhood. 

In addition, staff anticipates meeting individually with local organizations between the second and third weeks of September to discuss possible initiatives.  Staff will then organize all of the applications for City Council consideration and ranking of submissions at their October 17th meeting.
