The men and women of the police department are proud to serve the citizens of Punta Gorda and stand ready to continue our tradition as one of the safest communities in Southwest Florida. Our management philosophy consists of one simple statement – we are committed to providing superior and extraordinary customer service to our residents.

The signature of our commitment to organizational excellence is demonstrated by our achievement of what is commonly referred to as the “gold standard of law enforcement excellence” – law enforcement accreditation. The Punta Gorda Police Department achieved accredited status through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. in 1998, and we have maintained that status through four additional on-site inspections in 2001, 2004, and 2007, and 2010. These multiple certifications represent the fulfillment of our commitment to you that our community is receiving the highest quality of law enforcement services available.

The Punta Gorda Police Department is proud to offer a full array of law enforcement services. These services include, but are not limited to, Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Marine Patrol, a Bike Team, Dive Team, Motorcycle Unit, Canine Unit, School Resource Officers, Crime Scene, and Crime Prevention services. We are also proud to be augmented by our Volunteers In Policing (VIP) Unit which consists of more than 60 community volunteers who provide administrative, marine patrol, traffic control, parking enforcement, community relations, and other various support functions within our agency.

We are committed to a process of continued improvement and can only accomplish this end through feedback from our stakeholders.
