City of Punta Gorda EAR Activities
On May 27, 2011 the Department of Community Affairs determined that the EAR is sufficient, as defined in Subsection 163.3191(s)FS. The City may now proceed with the adoption of the comprehensive plan amendments in addition to the EAR-Based Amendments.
On May 6, 2011 The City of Punta Gorda submitted resolution 2920-11 to the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for their determination of sufficiency.
On May 4, 2011 The Punta Gorda City Council held the 2nd public hearing and adopted the EAR by resolution 2920-11.
On April 20, 2011 the Punta Gorda City Council held a public hearing and recommended approval of the EAR and approved the transmittal of the EAR to DCA
On March 28, 2011 a Public Hearing to receive comments and recommendation of approval to transmit the EAR to DCA was held at Planning Commission meeting. On October 15, 2010 the City of Punta Gorda received the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) acceptance of the City's submitted Letter of Understanding. Click here to view the DCA Letter.
On September 4, 2010 the City of Punta Gorda submitted the "Letter of Understanding" to the Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

The City kicked off the Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) on Thursday, July 15, 2010. Three public meetings were held throughout the day, giving residents and interested parties a chance to voice their opinion on issues regarding the City of Punta Gorda’s Comprehensive Plan 2025 update! The results of this information gathering will be the basis of a letter of understanding provided to the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) informing them of the issues to be addressed in the state mandated Comprehensive Plan update (EAR). Chapter 163 of the Florida Statutes requires all cities and counties in the State of Florida to maintain a comprehensive plan providing a long range (10 to 20 years) vision of future development and redevelopment. The Plan is required to be in accordance with the Florida Administrative Code. The Florida Department of Community Affairs requires complete evaluations and appropriate updates to the comprehensive plan in a seven year cycle known as the Evaluation and Appraisal Review (EAR). The City of Punta Gorda Comprehensive Plan 2025 is a result of the recommendations from the last major evaluation - the 2003 City of Punta Gorda Evaluation and Appraisal Report.

The City of Punta Gorda Comprehensive Plan 2025 has been redesigned in an effort to be “user friendly”. Each chapter has been color coded for easier reference.
