Image The City of Punta Gorda has implemented an emergency call-out system called CodeRed®. This system is similar to 911, except in reverse - we call you instead of you calling us.
This system allows the City of Punta Gorda to call targeted areas or the entire community in case of an emergency or urgent situations that require immediate attention. Examples are natural disasters (Hurricane warnings/watches, fires), man-made disasters (terrorism, chemical spills, gas leaks), search and rescue (missing children, adults or disabled persons), crime (prisoner escape warnings, sexual offender/predator alerts), as well as other emergency situations.
When an activation is received it will come from the phone number 866-419-5000 and will be listed under the caller ID as "Emergency Communications Network."
CodeRed® uses a database of phone numbers and addresses to make the calls, keeping records of numbers called. The system can tell whether the call was answered by a voice or answering machine, and even calls back if nobody answers the first time. Naturally, this database is only as effective as the information in it. Therefore, City residents and businesses are urged to update their information by clicking the link below.
CodeRed® Community Enrollment
Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no post office boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number. Additional phone numbers (i.e., such as cell phone numbers) are optional.
The information in the City of Punta Gorda's call database has been supplied by Emergency Communications Network and the City of Punta Gorda. However, no one should automatically assume a telephone number is included. All businesses should register as well as new residents in the City; those with unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their numbers or addresses within the last year; and those who use a cellular phone as a home phone. Please note this service is only for residents and businesses located within the city limits of Punta Gorda.
The information in the City's call database is secure and confidential and will only be used by the City for emergency notification purposes.
