District 5

Term 2021-2023

Melissa was born in Marietta, Georgia but spent the first half of her life in Pennsylvania. In 1993, she accepted a tennis scholarship at Robert Morris University, and in 1997 graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. As a collegiate tennis athlete and Hall of Famer, Melissa relocated to Naples, Florida in 1997, and quickly began her rise in the corporate world; never losing sight of wanting to start her own business. In 2000, Melissa moved to Punta Gorda and has been a resident living in the city ever since.

While building her corporate career, she began to care for a neighbor who did not have any nearby relatives. She quickly became aware of the growing needs for seniors who wanted to stay at home or “age in place”. In 2008, she left her secure, high-level career to do what she does best. She started her in-home care business, lovingly named Helping Hands SW FL, and began her advocacy for Charlotte County’s largest demographic.

Her unyielding commitment and dedication to senior care and her community are evident in her multiple positions among non-profits, charities and outreach programs…

Melissa currently sits as Past President of Our Charlotte Elders Affairs Network (OCEAN), as well as, Past Chair and committee member for Charlotte County Walk to End Alzheimer’s for the last six years.

She also serves on the Private Care Association Board (PCA), in which each year she and other members travel to Tallahassee, FL and Washington DC to meet with varies members of the house and senate to educate and bring attention to the needs of our senior population in regards to home care.

In addition to her attention to the mature population, she has been a champion for those in-need and serving local non-profits, such as, but not limited to: United Way of Charlotte County Campaign Cabinet, Homeless Coalition Charlotte Idol EMCEE, and Leadership Charlotte, Class of 2019 (Go Blue).

In 2014 she and her spouse founded Native Sun Pools LLC which provides pool service and repairs.

Melissa is no stranger to working with city government and varies subgroups. As a Focus Group participant for the 1% Sales Tax and a member of the Punta Gorda City Manager Committee, she has had the opportunity to hear what is on the hearts and minds of her fellow Punta Gordian’s. Her stewardship among multiple Homeowner Associations has provided the opportunity to lead, as well as, join shoulder-to-shoulder with neighbors who want to make a difference.

Collaboration with small business owners- of all industries- creates an innovative environment to have year-round sustainability, stimulate economic growth and development, and create quality employment opportunities.

Melissa and her spouse Tiffany live in Burnt Store Meadows along with their 4 cats and 1 goldendoodle.
